Cradle Mountain Trophy
This two-day mountain biking event promises to be an exhilarating experience and will take place over the weekend of 20th and 21st of April 2013. Based at Maropeng, in the heart of The Cradle of Humankind, the event is one of a kind.
It also forms part of the 2013 Cradle Festival and Wine Weekend.
The Cradle Mountain Trophy promises a fantastic offering of single track, plus some challenging off-road, and of course some good technical aspects. But do remember that we are calling this the “Mountain Trophy” for good reason. It is not all flat. We will be making good use of tracks and trails which have previously been used for private events. On these farms you will be riding amongst some amazing wildlife such as Zebra, Wildebeest and even Rhino.
It’s tough, it’s technical, but if you’re doing either Joburg2C or Sani2C, this is the ideal event to get those legs into shape. In fact, it’s a must and chances are, it’s your last chance.
The last weekend in May (2013) is the Magalies Monster mountain bike race, this is held in the Buffelspoort Valley near to the Buffelspoort Dam. The race has several categories, 20km-40km-70km, and is a test of your endurance in the Magaliesberg mountains!
The race terrain varies from rocky to sandy, descents to steep ascents and the 70km race includes the famous Magalies Monster climb to the top of the mountains and down again towards Sparkling Waters in the Valley.
